The Steeple

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

In September 2024, the Greensboro Bend Village was one of seven Vermont communities chosen to participate in the Village Trust Initiative (VTI). The purpose of the VTI grant is to provide technical assistance and partial funding to complete a community-led building revitalization project that increases community capacity and enhances economic vibrancy. The Methodist Church and parsonage on Main Street in Greensboro Bend were selected as the initial revitalization project.

From December 2024 through August 2025, a number of community engagement sessions were held, including a community meal, a community survey and an open house visioning event during the Annual Bend Block Party inside the Methodist Church. Community members were asked what additional resources they would like to have in the Bend and to envision how the use of the former Church buildings could be reimagined to benefit the whole community.

FORMING A COMMUNITY TRUST

Building upon the work of the Bend Revitalization Initiative, the Greensboro Community Trust (GCT) was formed in August 2025. A Board of Directors was appointed from a broader group of community members, and an Advisory Circle was established to provide expert advice and insight.

SIGNING AN OPTION AGREEMENT FOR 813/827 MAIN STREET

In October 2025, the GCT Board  signed an “Option To Purchase” Agreement with The New England Conference of the United Methodist Church, Inc. on October 13, 2025 for a 12 month term. The Board has chosen the name “The Steeple” for the project.

NEXT STEPS

The GCT Board will conduct a feasibility study of the project, including a full environmental review, water and wastewater capacity analysis, land use designation and an assessment of revenue generating opportunities.

ABOUT THE VILLAGE TRUST INITIATIVE
