Our Story
Greensboro Community Trust grew out of community conversations, local projects, and the work of the Bend Revitalization Initiative. These milestones show how that work has evolved and how GCT continues to build capacity, reinvigorate community spaces, and create social and economic opportunities across greater Greensboro.
2026
Fall — Steeple Feasibility Design Work Begins
GCT engages civil, structural, and architectural engineering consultants to develop schematic design and site evaluations.
Fall — GCT Strategic Planning
GCT Board engages strategic planning consultants to support the organization's growth and development.
September — Steeple Wastewater Assessment
Environmental consultants confirm that the Steeple property does not have viable “on-site” wastewater capacity to support project vision of a community center and housing - assessing other wastewater options.
September — LVRT Trailhead Amenity Upgrades
A portalet enclosure and bench along with necessary site work were completed in partnership with Town of Greensboro and NVDA
August — LVRT Trailhead Mural Painting at Bend Block Party
At the Bend Block Party, community members help paint a mural for the new portalet enclosure added to the trailhead.
August — Steeple Wastewater Test Pits Dug
Wastewater test pits were dug in surrounding areas to assess the soil and drainage conditions for possible wastewater solutions for the Steeple Project. Stone Environmental evaluated and DEC inspected.
July — Greensboro Bend Village Water Convening
GCT Board members convened a meeting with Fire District #2, Northeast Vermont Development Association, VT Rural Water Association, and consulting hydrologists and engineers to evaluate water system capacity and improvement opportunities.
July — Steeple Parsonage Architectural Designs
Following several site visits, design options were created for redevelopment of the parsonage into a duplex for affordable housing working with a local architect.
July — GCT at Funky Fourth Parade
Members of the GCT Board participated in the traditional Greensboro Funky Fourth Parade and staffed an information table on the Town Green, sharing copies of Taproot, the GCT newsletter.
June — Greensboro Town Hall Gym Cleaning
GCT Board members joined the Greensboro Recreation Committee & Pickleball Group in preparing the Town Hall gym for community drop in and tours
May — LVRT Trailhead Pollinator Bed Supplemental Planting
GCT collaboration with the Greensboro Conservation Commission to carry out supplemental planting of the pollinator beds at LVRT Trailhead
May — GCT First Annual Meeting
GCT Board held its first Annual Meeting and strategic planning conversation aimed at identifying priorities for the near future.
May — Steeple Wastewater Site Visit and Soil Analysis
Initial site assessment for viable wastewater options with environmental sustainability consultants, Stone Environmental
March — GCT at Town Meeting
GCT shared updates on its work and continued conversations with community members about current projects, priorities, and what comes next.
February — Steeple Water and Wastewater Assessments Begin
GCT began a deeper review of water and wastewater capacity for The Steeple property, including work with regional partners and environmental consultants to better understand what future uses may be possible.
2025
October — Steeple Option Agreement Signed for Church and Parsonage Property
GCT signed a 12-month Option to Purchase Agreement with the New England Conference of the United Methodist Church for the former Methodist Church and parsonage in Greensboro Bend. The project became known as The Steeple.
October — Steeple Parsonage Building Analysis
A construction analysis of the former parsonage was completed as part of the larger feasibility review of the former Methodist Church property.
August — GCT Open House at Bend Block Party
Community members were invited into the former Methodist Church during the annual Bend Block Party to explore the space, share ideas, and continue conversations about its future.
July — LVRT Trailhead Parking Lot Completed
Work continued at the Greensboro Bend trailhead, including improvements to the parking area and access around the site.
May — Greensboro Community Trust Formed
Building on the work of the Bend Revitalization Initiative, the Greensboro Community Trust was formed to support and manage community-led projects across greater Greensboro.
2024
December — Community Supper & VTI Survey
A community supper and survey invited residents to share ideas about Greensboro Bend, community needs, and possible future uses for the former Methodist Church and parsonage.
October — Steeple Church Building Assessment
A structural assessment of the former Methodist Church was completed to help inform future planning and feasibility work.
September — Greensboro Bend Selected for the Village Trust Initiative
Greensboro Bend and the former Methodist Church project were selected for the inaugural Village Trust Initiative, bringing technical assistance and support for community-led revitalization work.
September — LVRT Trailhead Opens
The Greensboro Bend trailhead opened as a new community and recreation resource along the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail.
August — Community Mural Painting at Bend Block Party
As part of the Bend Revitalization Initiative, community members helped paint a 32-foot mural designed by Vermont artist Tara Goreau for installation at the LVRT Trailhead.
2023
May — Construction Begins at the LVRT Trailhead
Construction began on the Greensboro Bend trailhead, including the parking area, bridges, landscaping, seating, signage, and other improvements designed to make the trail more accessible and welcoming.
